Borron Receives National Teaching Award from APLU and NIFA

Congratulations to Dr. Abigail Borron, associate professor of agricultural and science communication, who received the 2019 Excellence in College and University Teaching Award for Food and Agricultural Sciences. Borron was named one of the early-career winners of this prestigious award offered to only two recipients from across the nation.

These awards are presented by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. In recognition of their scholarship, exemplary pedagogy, and dedication to instruction, the annual awards include $2,000 for each early career honoree to be used for improving teaching at their respective universities.

“We applaud this year’s winners of the Excellence in College and University Teaching Awards for Food and Agricultural Sciences,” said Doug Steele, Vice President of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources at APLU. “The high bar they’ve set stands as a powerful example not only to their students, but to other faculty striving to better serve their students.”

Dr. Borron and Dr. Leslie Edgar visited San Diego, California in early November to attend the APLU Annual Conference during which Dr. Borron received her reward.

Dr. Borron’s research focuses on culture-centered communication and she delves into topics such as marginalized and underserved audiences, university engagement and food insecurity.

A faculty member recognized by UGA Today in a February 2019 feature, Borron is an exemplary professor who weaves service learning into her coursework to help students engage in diverse communities and co-constructing narratives of these communities.

Help us congratulate Dr. Borron on this outstanding accomplishment!
